Early Bethlehem was home to an outstanding concentration of manufacturing trades. Settled along the Monocacy Creek, the Colonial Industrial Quarter buildings showcase the stories of Moravian ingenuity and hard work needed to support the community.

Structures include:
- 1761 Tannery
- 1764 Springhouse
- Reconstructed 1750 Smithy
- 1869 Luckenbach Mill
- Miller's House
- Industrial Quarter Ruins, including the Dye House

One of the most precious buildings in the CIQ is the 1762 Waterworks, a National Historic Landmark. The Waterworks served as the first municipally pumped water system in America. Watch the wheel turn here.

Reconstructed 1750 Smithy

Within the Colonial Industrial Quarter is a blacksmith shop. Stop in between Thursday and Sunday to see smiths in action and sparks flying! Enjoy a video taken in Historic Bethlehem's working Smithy.

In October 2010, the Smithy hosted a workshop, teaching the techniques of using a forge and other tools. Enjoy photos from the event here. Check back in the coming months for information on 2012 workshops.

Looking for a truly unique gift? Our blacksmiths take custom orders year-round. Profits benefit Historic Bethlehem Partnership. Call (610) 691-6055 for more information or to place an order.
