“Moravian Soundscape” Walking Tour Overview
Experience “Moravian Soundscapes,” a two-day event offering a unique walking tour with sound installations and the Jeanette Barres Zug Lecture at the Gemeinhaus Saal, Moravian Museum.
On Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., immerse yourself in the sounds of the Historic Moravian District as Eyerly will guide you back to Moravian Bethlehem in 1758 through the sounds of life, industry, and nature in early Bethlehem.
Take a moment to pause and truly listen as you encounter sound installations inspired by Eyerly’s Bethlehem in 1758 | Moravian Soundscapes map which vividly recreates the sounds of Bethlehem in 1758.
The walking tour begins at Gemeinhaus Saal, Moravian Museum (66 West Church St, Bethlehem). Tickets are limited.

About Sarah Eyerly
Sarah Eyerly is Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development in the College of Music at Florida State University.
Her research interests are broad, and include Moravian studies, eighteenth-century music, music and religion, Native American and Indigenous Studies, and the geo-humanities. Her book, Moravian Soundscapes: A Sonic History of the Moravian Missions in Early America (Indiana University Press, Series: Music, Nature, Place, 2020), received the Music in American Culture Award from the American Musicological Society, and the Dale W. Brown Book Award from the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies, and was a finalist for the Waterloo Centre for German Studies Book Prize.
She is also co-author, with Rachel Wheeler, of the triple prize-winning article, “Singing Box 331: Re-Sounding Eighteenth-Century Mohican Hymns from the Moravian Archives” (The William and Mary Quarterly, 2019), and her article, “Mozart and the Moravians” (Early Music, 2019), received the Marjorie Weston Emerson Award from the Mozart Society of America. Her current projects include a biography and documentary film on the life of the eighteenth-century Mohican musician, Joshua, heritage tourism and Indigenous representation at Moravian mission sites in Ohio, and sound reconstruction of the Apalachee and Spanish musical culture of Mission San Luis in Tallahassee, FL.
